Four Neptune Lines’ vessels to fly the Hellenic flag |
|
30-01-2013 "Ship2Shore"
According to what has been reported by Hellenic Shipping News Worldwide, Piraeus-based Neptune Lines announced yesterday that at least four of its vessels will fly the Hellenic flag.
Neptune Kefalonia is already making the transition from the Maltese to the Hellenic Shipping Registry, Neptune Ithaki will follow during the first days of February, while the other two ships to sail under the Greek flag are currently under construction.
This decision follows the plan – announced by the Greek Minister of Mercantile Shipping Kostas Mousouroulis – to modernize the Hellenic Shipping Registry by reducing bureaucracy and introducing a new ‘electronic register’ with the aim of retaining the vessels already registered and attracting new ones. The increasing in the number of vessels registered under the Greek flag will help the State to get higher revenues and to lower unemployment.

In a bid to bolster the Hellenic Shipping Registry and enhance the government's efforts to create a more competitive flag state, Hellas-based Neptune Lines, one of the country's leading car carrier shipping company, announced yesterday the decision to fly the Hellenic flag on board of at least four of its vessels. Starting today, Neptune Kefalonia will make the transition from the Maltese to the Hellenic Shipping Registry, while according to company officials, the vessel Neptune Ithaki, is scheduled to follow, during the first days of February. Finally, two newbuildings that the company is currently building, will also fly the Hellenic flag.
Neptune Lines is controlled by the Travlos family. It is regarded as a key player in the Mediterranean car carrier market with an integrated agency network and independently operated car terminals. At present, Neptune Lines owns and operates 11 Pure Car and Truck Carrier vessels, each with a capacity ranging from 430-3.200 medium sized cars. In 2009 and 2010, four sister vessels, namely Neptune Kefalonia, Neptune Ithaki, Neptune Odyssey and Neptune Iliad were added to the fleet. These vessels can be used for both transeoceanic and short sea trade and they each have a capacity of 3.200 medium sized cars. As of February 2012 and July 2012, the fleet reached 13 vessels, as two new vessels, Magny Cours Express and Le Mans Express, with similar characteristics to Neptune Kefalonia have been time-chartered. The fleet's capacity for trucks is 14.000 lane meters. The average age of the fleet, per car carrying capacity is 5,7 years.
Neptune Lines’ owned vessels are high-specification ones, each equipped with multiple thrusters, a high load capacity stern ramp and stern quarter ramp, an eco-friendly propulsion plant with a CPP propeller and shaft generator for high reliability and operational efficiency. An energy saving device will also be installed in each of these vessels, to reduce fuel consumption and emissions in league with the Company's Social Responsibility Policy.
In a recent meeting held with Finance Minister Mr. Yannis Stournaras, the Minister of Mercantile Shipping, Mr. Kostas Mousouroulis announced plans to modernize the current registry and make it more competitive. On the forefront of this effort, will be the sharp reduction of paperwork and bureaucracy that prevails and acts as a major block towards the atrraction of more ship owners and vessels. The aim of the Ministry is to retain the current number of vessels and also attract new ones, both from Hellenic-based ship owners, but also from foreign owners as well, not to mention the fact that through this process and its potential success, the state will enjoy higher revenues and also help reduce unemployment among the lower crews.
It is worth noting that as it stands now, it takes more than 30 signatures from various officials, in order to complete the process of registering a vessel in the Hellenic Registry. As a result, according to the most recent official figures, out of a total of more than 3,760 vessels owned by Hellenic ship owners, just 862 are registered under the Hellenic flag. By comparison, during 2011 the relative number was 917 and in 2010, the number had reached 969, still low compared to the total size of the Hellenic-controlled shipping fleet. The new initiative, details of which, are to be expected within the following weeks, will introduce a so called electronic registry, which will enable owners to complete the process online.

Neptune Lines awarded Best Shipping Company |
|
05-12-2012

The first ever Automotive Supply Chain Global Awards, aimed at recognising and rewarding exceptional achievements by companies and individuals involved in supplying logistics to the automotive industry, proved a resounding success in terms of networking opportunities and industry feedback.
Opening the ceremony at the Steigenberger Frankfurt Hof hotel, Editor and Chairman of the Judges, Sam Ogle said: “We have been overwhelmed by the response to these inaugural awards. The volume of nominations was enormous, which made the job of deciding on the winners difficult. We look forward to succeeding years becoming even more difficult”.
The Shipping Company award went to Greece-based Neptune Lines. The company operates a regular liner service to more than 26 key ports in 17 countries within the Mediterranean, Black Sea, Iberia and Morocco Atlantic areas and offers constantly improving maritime services to most of the world’s car manufacturers despite the difficult economic conditions prevailing in the region.
Nadine Dangleterre, Neptune’s Commercial Manager, thanked all her colleagues and said: “We’ve done what we’ve always done; trying to be partners with our customers and supporting them in their development, building on their needs and helping them to find things easier.”

Lloyd's List: Neptune orders up to four car carriers from Hyundai Mipo |
|
12-06-2012 by Nigel Lowry
Neptune’s two vessels will have ease of manoeuvre that makes them well-suited to shortsea trades.
Vessels are sisters of previous quartet but offer a smaller environmental footprint.
GREECE-based Neptune Lines has inked an order for two pure car and truck carrier newbuildings with Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea.
The vessels of 31,000 sq m carrying capacity can accommodate about 3,500 cars depending on size and are due for delivery in late 2013 and early 2014.
The ships are understood to be close sisters of four previous PCTCs that Hyundai Mipo built for Neptune in 2009-2010, but with a reduced environmental footprint and improved energy efficiency.
According to a source close to the contract, the vessels have advanced manoeuvrability that makes them suitable for shortsea trades.
No price was immediately given for the deal, which includes a provision for two optional additional vessels.
The previous quartet for Neptune, contracted in 2007, was reportedly priced at about $54m per vessel. Yard prices have come down since then, though probably not as steeply as for bulkers, tankers and containerships.
The deal, which is said to follow six months of project development, appears to be the first for some time in the medium-sized car carrier segment.
Recent newbuilding orders from Hyundai Glovis and Eukor were for larger ocean-going car carriers.
Neptune Lines is a leading operator in shortsea transportation, serving more than 25 ports in 18 countries in the Mediterranean and Black Sea regions, carrying more than 700,000 units annually.
The company owns a fleet of 11 car carriers and operates two further vessels on period charters.
