Neptune Lines protects whales in the Hellenic Trench

Neptune Lines implements voluntary re-routing measures in the Hellenic Trench — a critical habitat for endangered sperm whales in the Eastern Mediterranean.

With our vessels crossing this area more than 200 times each year, this decision significantly reduces the risk of ship strikes and contributes to the long-term protection of one of the Mediterranean’s most vulnerable marine species.

Following scientific input and engagement with IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare), OceanCare, Pelagos Cetacean Research Institute and WWF Greece, Neptune Lines’ decision to adjust its shipping routes reaffirms our commitment to responsible operations and marine biodiversity.

Our Chair of the Board, Ms. Melina Travlos, stated:
“For us, the ocean is our home. We honour it. We protect it. Sustainability lies at the heart of our strategy, and protecting marine biodiversity is our responsibility.”
